SUMMER 2013
Cruise Ship Tourist
A. Starting at the Port of Miami you debark your cruise ship and end up at the loading are where there are taxis, shuttles, and buses
- leaving the port we noticed very few sinage and the signage was unclear as how to exit the port
- we took a taxi to the Intercontinental hotel where we were staying
B. At the Intercontinetal Hotel we stoped by the consierge desk and asked for a map of the city
- We asked the consierge to recommed us places to visit and go eat and she immediatly told us to either to go to South Beach or Bayside.
- We asked if there were any good restaurants around downtown Miami and she said no, so we asked what we could do in downtown since we were staying here and she said nothing we should just saty away from there making us feel unsafe and uncomfortable.
C. We walked the boardwalk along the bay to Bayside Marketplace
- It was a nice walk until the boardwalk became a street where cars were driving by.
D. We continue our walk towards the American Airline Arena since it looked very attractive. As we were crossing the street, we realized there was no sidewalk or safe way to cross to the other side of the street. We ran and almost did'nt make it.
- The hot weather was not helping much
E. Next we went to the Adriane Arsht Center and as we were walking there the sidewalk was interrupted by the entrance to McArthur crossway.
- Once again we had to cross the street feeling very unsafe.
- We arived at the Adriane Arsht Center and we started to look for the Metro Mover to head back to the Hotel.
F. We found the 11 street Metro Mover station and took the first train we saw.
-during the ride we realized we were in the wrong train since the signage was very poor, we had to get off and get on the right one.
H. We arrived at the Bayside station and walk a block to the Hotel.

This journey began at the Port of Miami and ended at the Intercontinetal Hotel. Using different types of transportations including taxi, walking, and metro mover, we decided to explore the city through the eye of a tourist. Guiding ourselves with the poor existing sinage and wayfindings.
- At the Port of Miami we noticed the lack of signage
- Entering there is a temporary digital sign that changes depending on the cruises in the port
- Leaving there are more signs, but they are all very small and unclear
- Once you are ready to exit the port into downtown there is signage (image top left) but it is right on top of the intersection so you don't realize where you need to go until you reach the intersection
Transportation
