SUMMER 2013
Problem
-
In Downtown Miami there is no such a place where visitors could find information about the city.
-
There is also lack of organic structure, where box-type buildings dominate the skyline.
-
Most buildings fight each other for tallness while lacking meaning and identity.
Concept
-
The structure for this visitor’s center was carefully selected after comparing tropical and urban landscape of Miami.
-
Structure designed inspired on the leaves of the palm tree, reflecting Miami’s identity due to our climate.
Strategy
-
Design of a visitor’s center on Biscayne Blvd, which is a highly populated and transited area.
-
Intended to serve as a landmark, and provide identity to the skyline of Downtown Miami.
-
System of furniture derived from the same structure, intended to replace old benches and bus stops.
-
A grid of the same pattern will expand through the city, creating a new language that will identify the city.
