SUMMER 2013
The Serpintine Saunter

Problem
-
Limited walkways for people to commute safely
-
Lack of usage for main parks in Downtown
-
The car has become the dominant method of transportation and maintains hierarchy in the roads of Downtown.
Concept
-
The inspiration is the serpent structure due to its ability to move fluidly on land and to expand and contract its skin.
-
The alternative transportation (walking, biking, public transportation) in Downtown is often viewed as a disadvantage source of movement in comparison to the snake in the animal kingdom (move without limbs, wings, or fins)
Strategy
-
Create walkways that “slither” through the busy streets of Downtown.
-
Recreate the park areas by using the walkway’s structure and promote event and recreation space for active use.
