SUMMER 2013
Connect Miami

To connect Miami through people, using the many cultures and interests, such as, locals, tourists, bycyclists, swimers , boaters, and fishermen.
When I did the study to find the identity of Miami, I found three different identities: 1.South Beach -this is what tourist usually picture when they think of Miami, drinking, partying, and clubbing
2.Nature - not many people realize that here in Miami is a National park, the Everglades. There are also things such as swimming with the dolphins or riding camels here in Miami
3.History - Miami is also know for the Micosukee indians, but this is mainly known just by locals and in some cases not even by locals. Also we have locations such as the Biltmore hotel which has a lot of history local to Miami
I want to mix all of these three identities and make just one identity for Miami. In a smaller scale I want to connect Miami through its people, including different cultures, activities and interest. I connect all of these audiences through a boardwalk that connects the main attractions of downtown Miami.
Problems:
- there is a lot of space around Bayfront park and no one uses it
- way-finding, to go to local attractions in downtown there is a complicated path having to pass through high traffic and no resting areas
- there is a great opportunity for locals and tourist to interact with the bay but there is nothing there now
